Matt is an Australian-born adventure travel guide, living in Uken Village on Amami Island. With a passion for showcasing the raw beauty of this island and its people, he’s dedicated to creating unforgettable experiences for those seeking authentic adventures.

A PASSION FOR AUTHENTICITY

Matt’s guiding philosophy is simple: real adventures, genuine connections. From free diving in crystal-clear waters to trekking through Amami’s dense jungles, his tours offer immersive experiences rooted in local culture and nature. Every day, Matt is out exploring or connecting with the locals, forging the relationships that form the foundation of his tours.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

With 25 years of experience in Japan, Matt has worked across various industries, collaborating with multinational and Japanese companies. Over the past few years, he has worked closely with organizations like National Geographic, History Channel, and The North Face, as well as Japan’s Environment and Tourism Ministries to promote Amami Island, which achieved UNESCO Natural World Heritage status in 2021.

Matt has also guided all types of travelers, from couples and families to diplomats and professional athletes.
